Sunday 10th-17th Oct

See the truly magnificent sights of Rome. Experience life as it was in 79AD - Pompei and cycle some of the most breathtaking scenery in mainland Europe.

Day One

Arrive Rome Ciampino airport then transfer to a city centre hotel/Camp site. In the afternoon we’ll set up our bikes and then cycle from Rome’s Termini station to the Piazza Della Republicca then cycle down the Via Nazionale to the beautiful Palace Venezia with it’s wonderful Architecture and magnificent statues. From Piazza Venezia we can cycle Rome’s dei Fori Imperiali to the Colosseum and surrounding area, this area is like cycling back to the future.

We’ll then cycle along the Via Del Corso Rome’s main thoroughfare in the Historical Centre which leads all the way from Piazza Venezia at it’s southern end up to the piazza del Popolo to the north, stopping of for refreshments in the beautiful Piazza Navona. We’ll then head across the Tiber to visit the truly magnificent architecture of the Vatican city

Finally we’ll cycle back across the Tiber taking in the beautiful sights of Rome’s Trevi fountain and the Spanish Steps
both of which are more beautiful and romantic at night. Then after dining at one of Rome’s many excellent
restaurants in the area we can cycle back to the hotel for a good nights sleep mesmerised by the impact of culture
and architecture that is Rome and by extension Italy.

Day Two

Leave Rome’s Termini station on the train with our bikes to clear the city suburbs south of Rome to Cisterna di Latina. From here we’ll cycle south to the town of Terracina a distance of about thirty miles cycling on mostly flat easy terrain with one or two small climbs.
Terracina is divided into two parts the old quarter high on the hill and a lively newer area by the sea.

Today’s cycling will finish with a steep climb to the Temple of Jupiter Anxurus which crowns the hill giving wonderful views over new Terracina below and the Tyrean Sea stretching out in front.

This evening we’ll dine at one of the best restaurants in Terracina where you can choose from seafood, pasta- or pizza baked in a wood fired oven.

Day Three

We’ll leave Terracina hugging the coastline under the glowering backdrop of Mount Aurunci the scenery and beaches make it all worthwhile and you should enjoy the peaceful tranquil setting because by the end of the day we’ll be in the hustling, bustling metropolis of Naples.

Cycling today will consist of about forty to fifty miles taking us to the outskirts of Naples where we’ll catch the train to Napoli Central train station. After we’ve reached our hotel and freshened up there will be time to have a look round the city centre and eat dinner in one of Naples fine restaurants.

Day Four

We’ll start the day with a tour of the National Musuem of Archaeology. Naples is a city with a couple of Italy's most important museums, however the Museo Archaeologico Nazionale or the Metropol is simply exceptional.

Home to the Farnese collection of antiquities from Lazio and Campania and the best of the finds from the nearby Roman sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum. You'd be mad to miss them.

Later in the day we'll transfer by train to Salerno where we'll check into our hotel and enjoy an evening meal with some of the finest views in mainland Europe along the start of the Amalfi Coast. eptional.

Day Five

Salerno to Sorrento along the Amalfi Coast as far as picturesque, mind blowing scenery goes the Amalfi Coast is gobsmackingly beautiful.

I'm sure you'll want to stop and take photos a hundred times but if you do you'll never get there in a day because around every corner or bend there's breathtaking beauty and dramatic clifftop scenery for 40 miles all the way from Salerno to Sorrerno.

The Amalfi Coast is very hilly and the most demanding part of our route, it requires good levels of fitness and endurance and a strong will to finish cycling the 40 miles from Salerno to Sorrento known as the Amalfi Coast.

We'll stay in a hotel in Sorrento and again enjoy some wonderful Italian cuisine and a night staying in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Day Six

Today you'll have the choice of either taking a yacht to the beautiful Island of Capri or visiting the site of Vesuvius and ancient Pompeii which was buried in ash and lava when Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD burying the city and it's inhabitants for nearly 2000 years before being discovered again in the 20th century.

We'll end the day by transferring from Sorrento to Terracina where we'll stay the night and enjoy another evening meal in this beautiful town on the coast.

Day Seven

After breakfast we'll transfer by train from Terracina to Rome Termini train station where we'll spend the day cycling round some of the main sights of Rome which we didn't manage to see on our first day and this will be your chance to choose what you'd most like to see, like the Sistine Chapel or the Borghese Museam, The Colloseum or Vatican City in more detail.

At the end of the day we'll transfer to our hotel near the airport where we'll enjoy our final meal of the trip and a few glasses of your favourite wine maybe reminise about our adventure and some of the wonderful sights and experiences of the week.
